Refresh rates
Rates refresh when the app opens or returns to the foreground. You can also tap Refresh at any time.
Scan a price
Tap Scan price and hold a price tag inside the frame. The image is processed on your device and is not stored or sent by the app. You can always enter the price and currency manually.
Ask Valuta AI
Type or say “What is 250 USD in NOK?” On-device recognition or a local rules engine identifies common currency names and codes.

Overview
Valuta AI is developed by Mats Amlie. The app does not require an account and does not include advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking. We do not sell your data.
Information stored on your device
Favorite currencies, entered amounts, natural-language questions, recognized price text, optional approximate-location suggestions, and the latest successful rate response are stored or processed locally on your device. You can remove locally stored information by deleting the app.
Camera and price scanning
If you choose Scan price, Apple's on-device VisionKit and Vision frameworks read text shown by the camera. Valuta AI does not save camera images or send them to the developer or an external image-recognition service. Camera access is optional; manual price entry remains available.
Voice input
If you choose voice input, the app requests microphone and speech recognition access and only starts when on-device speech recognition is supported. Audio is used for the active request and is not stored by Valuta AI. You can type the same request without granting either permission.
Optional approximate location
When you first scan a price, you may allow approximate location access while using the app. It is used only to suggest the likely local currency in the scanner. The app does not request precise location, keep a location history, or send your location to the developer. You can decline and choose the currency manually.
Exchange-rate requests
The app requests ECB reference rates from Frankfurter. The request does not include your entered amount, question, favorites, or an app-created identifier. As with any internet request, service and network providers may process standard technical information such as your IP address to deliver and protect the service, according to their own policies.
On-device AI
On supported devices, Apple's Foundation Models framework identifies the amount and currencies in your question on the device. The question is not sent to the developer or to an external AI service. The model never supplies or calculates an exchange rate.
Children and changes
Valuta AI is a general utility and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If this policy changes, the revised policy and effective date will be published on this page.
